Blizzard was the most curious of Red Currant’s offspring. She was always the one watching you or chatting to the neighbours. One day I discovered her sitting on their hutch because she had managed to scramble over the fence between them and then had jumped up there to get away from them because they weren’t exactly pleased about her intruding into their space.
Later on Blizzard decided to take on dominant Flurry and our big group od does had to be split up. Blizzard and Drift in one group and Flurry, Nix and Red Currant in the other. Drift and Blizzard went to live in a double hutch in a big run where they enjoyed digging extensive workings. In fact they became so extensive we had to move them a couple of time because they were undermining paths and breaking into other runs. The final run they shared was the biggest on the bank but unfortunately it was rather more exposed with less tree cover overhead particularly in the spring before the leaves opened and one day there was a bird battle overhead, seagulls versus buzzards, making a huge racket that started very suddenly. Blizzard had been very nervous for the past few days because there had been a vixen lurking about, even during the day, and doing lots of barking nearby. I had been stomping about trying to make my presence felt to keep it away and Blizzard had been particularly jumpy and had already startled badly several times as I walked past. When the birds started their fight she must have charged into the hutch so fast that she broke her neck because I found her with her head bent completely backwards when I went to put them away that night. Such a tragic end for a such a healthy lively girl:(
