Saffron is an incredibly pretty little lionhead buck with the most amazing frosted peach colouring. He was part of an accidental litter and came here in October 2017 with his littermates and parents when their previous owner moved. He lives with Saxifrage, also known as Whoopsie and more recently Iris.
At one point he injured a back leg and it remained weak for some time so the group lived in a single level hutch to try and stop him agravating it again. This allowed it to heal fully and he can now cope with a two level hutch again.
Saffron hasn’t had any further issues with his leg and is still a mostly healthy little rabbit although his coat remains a nightmare. He needs a thorough grooming every month to get the clagged fur off his back and trim his face so he can see. In the summer he needs a complete trim including removing the hair from his ears to stop him overheating. He was collapsing in summer 2022 even without his coat and was the first rabbit that had to be taken into the barn to get away from the worst of the heatwave although he didn’t cope well with being moved either. I suspect his heart is not particularly strong. Lionheads, particularly those with double coats, like Saffron, are not well suited to survive climate change.
